Why Consult a Birth Control Options Specialist?

Your birth control choice should support your overall health, not just prevent pregnancy. We’ll review your medical history, current symptoms, and goals (such as improving heavy or painful periods, managing PCOS, or avoiding hormones) so you can make an informed decision.

What to Expect at Your Birth Control Visit

A calm, judgement free conversation where your concerns are taken seriously.

  • Talk through your health history, symptoms, and goals without judgment
  • Review labwork or order new labs if needed, and perform a physical exam when appropriate
  • Discuss evidence-based birth control options and review risks, benefits, and side effects of each method
  • Answer your questions thoroughly so you feel informed and confident in your next steps
  • Some methods, like IUDs or Nexplanon, may require a separate procedure visit. We’ll let you know if your chosen option can be started the same day or scheduled later
  • Our approach is collaborative. We’ll work together to create a plan that fits your body, your lifestyle, and your preferences

Abnormal Lab Results &

Follow-Up

If your lab work or screening results show something outside the normal range, you will not be left wondering what it means. We review every finding with clarity and provide next steps you can trust.

At KS Women’s Health Clinic, we will:

  • Explain your results in a clear, easy-to-understand language
  • Discuss what the findings mean for your health
  • Review evidence-based options for next steps
  • Create a personalized follow-up plan with you
Do I need an initial visit before an IUD or implant?

In most cases, an initial birth control visit is required before an IUD or implant procedure. This visit allows us to review your medical history, discuss your goals, confirm the best option for you, and determine whether same day placement is appropriate. Some patients may be eligible for same day placement, while others may need a separate procedure visit.

Does birth control affect hormones or weight?

Hormonal birth control works by changing hormone levels to prevent pregnancy. Some people notice temporary side effects, such as changes in mood, appetite, bloating, or water retention, especially during the first few months.

Most birth control methods are not strongly linked to long term weight gain. The exception is the Depo Provera shot, which has been associated with weight gain in some patients.

Everyone responds differently. If weight or hormonal symptoms are a concern, we will help you choose a method that aligns with your body, health history, and goals.

Can I switch methods later?

Many people change birth control methods over time. If a method is not a good fit due to side effects, lifestyle changes, or health needs, we can help you safely transition to another option.

Switching methods does not mean something went wrong. It means your care is being personalized and adjusted to what works best for you.

In some cases, we may recommend a brief overlap or specific timing when switching methods to maintain continuous pregnancy protection.
